In today’s society, where news broadcasters and newspapers deliver nothing but tragedy to your doorstep, it’s hard to see the good in the world. However random acts of kindness happen all the time ever day. Whether we see them or not, do them or don’t do them, choose to broadcast them or not to broadcast them, they still happen. From Cambridge Ontario, Jeanette chooses to see the good and hopes to one day reward it. And with this submission we hope to reward you Jeanette for your wonderful input!!! We’ve sent you a t-shirt and entered you into the BIG $10,000 draw!!! If you haven’t heard of it yet, check out our Thanks a Million card!!!
Idea Title:
Random Acts of Kindness
From:
Jeanette Richards from Cambridge Ontario
Idea Summary:
To show people that we do live in a loving society and that it’s not all that they see on their news stations or read in the papers.
Have people report random acts of kindness and follow up those stories to find out the 5 W’s
I’d love to hear local stories of people caring for and looking out for each other. There are some of us who actively live our lives making the lives of the people around us better, lets find out just how much of that goes on on a regular basis, I bet you we’d surprise ourselves, and what a good feeling that would give people, it might even start spreading.
Idea Description:
So, we just send out a bulletin to all radio station across our nation that we are calling all angels.
All the people who on a regular basis do for others as they would like done to them, I think that we should honor each and every one of them.
Find out if there’s something they would like for themselves and whether it is that they need some plumbing done or a vacation cause they have never had one, lets get the people they have done acts of kindness for to pull together their resources to make this happen for him/her
Message:
We could approach local business’s and perhaps have a travel agency donate a trip and even have a local plumber donate his time to install him a new sink
It could be as easy as getting he and his wife a babysitter so they can have a night out which hasn’t happened in years.
What I’m saying is I know that there are many business’s who would sponsor to help an angel of kindness, we have several I could think of, RIM, TOYOTA, BUDDS.
Lets use the Kiss method and not make it a huge deal.
Even if a random act of kindness doesn’t make the show we should have a place on the website for this show where people can report the acts they know of, sort of an honourable mention to acknowledge their importance.

Here are a couple of great big crazy ideas examples… In this video Dean tells us about his invention, the “neat seat lifter”, what his patenting process was, and how his outcome came to be. Peter goes over his “line drive golf fishing system” and the unexpected success it had while it was still current. It started out as a joke and a brainstorming session and turned into a great start-up business success. Don’t forget you could WIN $10,000 just for submitting your idea to racetoamillion.ca

We’ve had a few of the fans for the show say that submitting their idea was a little bit of a challenge so as you can see here we’ve made it as simple as possible for you to share your ideas and of course qualify for the ten thousand dollar give-away.
Simply click on the “submit your ideas” graphic. Now, we need to know who you are so take a moment to fill in your details. This way we can send you your Race to A Million t-shirt if we post your idea and of course we’ll know how to contact you if your name is drawn as the winner of the ten thousand dollars ($10,000) at the end of season one in June 2011.
If you’ve won the $10K you’re going to want to know right?
And also, if you’re looking for some inspiration to come up with your own ideas why not take a couple of moments and have a look through some of the submitted ideas to see what other fans are doing.
Before you give us the description of your idea, don’t forget to take a moment or two to decide which of the great t-shirt styles you want and make sure you indicate which size is best for you.
Now back to the home page we go with another new tab for you to check out. It’s the Thanks a Million tab and that’s the key to getting your Thanks a Million card. Check out what this great program is all about. The cards are available now and you could start a wave of appreciation that spreads all around the world and actually track what your act of kindness does as a traverses the globe.
And of course a couple of the teams have some new team members and you can get to know them on the Team Bio pages and you can also get the latest team standings on the leader board page too.

The commercial transport industry is a big one, and it demands big transport vehicles! From planes to trains we ship in mass amounts and we have to ship it fast. This revolutionary idea about Wing in Ground courier’s is from Jonathan Anthony who has submitted many great ideas already!! Thank-you Jonathan for your support and input!!
Idea Title:
Wing in Ground effect Courier and Transport Service
Idea Summary:
Wing in Ground effect aircraft may not be well known yet but they are machines capable of carrying much larger cargo loads than equivalent sized aircraft but are restricted to much lower altitudes. Often they’re amphibious (built to take off from and land from water) making them the perfect means of high speed transportation for island hopping and coastal transport in hard to reach places.
Idea Description:
Conventional airplanes gain lift from their wings creating a low pressure zone under the wing and a higher pressure zone over the wing. The air under the wing moves faster and keeps the plane in the air. Ground effect is the opposite and works by having the wing create a high pressure zone under the aircraft body so that it rides on a cushion of air like a hovercraft but without the need for a rubber skirt.
Although typical commercially available vehicles of this nature only operate at a cruising altitude of around 3 meters (flight control becomes sluggish at higher altitudes) the Soviet Union was able to recycle many old cargo planes by converting them to ground effect vehicles used for high military transport in the Black and Caspian Sea. Their original designs were intended to cruise at 3 meters but were found to be most efficient at 20 meters with a top speed of 300 knots or about 560km/h. Some research craft made it as high as 400 knots or 740 km/h.
Imagine a fast happy medium between gas guzzling jumbo jets and slow lumbering sea faring cargo ships.
Imagine something that would make hard to reach communities accessible and change the waterways.
There is slow but growing use of these craft in Japan, Germany, Austrailia, America, and probably more. The German coast guard is rumored to have a few of them in use that are capable of over 200 knots. In that application speed can save lives.
Business Idea:
A coastal shipping and transport company using ground effect vehicles to minimize transport effect on marine habitats, reduce fuel consumption, and make isolated coastal and island communities more accessible to improve their quality of living. Shipments will arrive far faster than by boat and far cheaper with far less fuel than by conventional aircraft.
The catch? One would probably need a million dollars to start this business unless you were able to purchase just one or two ground effect aircraft and start a small operation for 250-500 thousand Can it be feasible? If buying a rig for the same price can be part of a feasible business plan despite todays high fuel costs then absolutely.
Licensing catches? I’m not sure what piloting license is required for these craft in Canada and what the Canadian government classifies them as. Marine vehicle or Aircraft. In the United States they’ve been classified as marine vehicles and only require a regular boaters license to operate them.
Operational catch: even if you can acquire a craft that operates at a slightly higher cruising altitude so you can fly in rougher seas you still have to be able to land and take off from those seas. Your business plan may at times be subject to the will of El Nino which is Spanish for…. The Nino, according to Chris Farley.
Message:
I doubt I’ll ever have the money to start this business myself so here it is! It’s also not my passion to run a shipping and receiving business so even if I could run it the business would never “take off”.

Running a house hold is like a full time job, there’s the cooking and the cleaning and the washing and the organizing and the list goes on and on! From washing machines to self cleaning ovens, we continue to try and make running a home easier and more efficient. Amanda Blyth, once again, is taking house hold appliances one step further, one step better, one step cleaner. You can almost smell the rubber bands on that $10 000 can’t you Amanda? Thank you for your submission once again!!
Idea Title:
Self-Cleaning Microwave
From:
Amanda Blyth in Kamloops BC
Idea Summary:
A Microwave that cleans itself (for the most part if not entirely).
Idea Description:
How many of us want to microwave our lunch, at home or at work and when we open the microwave it’s disgusting because someone didn’t care to take the time to cover their food and it sprayed everywhere!
A microwave oven that is self-cleaning needs to be invented. It may need a wipe down afterwards but atleast it could moisten all the chunkies and stains (some sort of steam feature) and maybe even use some sort of environmentally friendly cleaning agent to break it down so that it’s as easy as wiping it away OR better yet, it could have a filter that could absorb/suck in any particles that are lying loose – this might be a tricky part but once conquered, maybe ALL appliances could be self-cleaning!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Idea to everyone!
In this BIG Ideas Video Peter and Dean discuss submitting to the BIG IDEAS form on Race To A Million and some feedback (AND IDEAS) from Peter’s daughter Heather Cameron-Inglis. Are there people out there that seem a little reluctant to submit their ideas? You bet there are! Are they holding onto their ideas? Yes! Why might that be? Heather Cameron-Inglis shed a little light on why this might be for us to share.
Some of the ideas might be from more than one person… can people submit ideas as groups or couples? The answer is yes! Please do! Perhaps you have a team of your own and are following along with the show trying to create some masterminding and entrepreneurial business yourselves. That would be great and we’d love you to submit on behalf of a group or even if you’re doing it with a friend!
Some people might also be thinking … If I submit my idea I might win $10,000 but if I keep my idea to myself then I won’t have to share it with anyone and I could make millions … to that we say … If you don’t submit your idea and you never get around to doing it … you’ll have nothing BUT even if you’re scared of losing it … email Dean and Peter at info@racetoamillion.ca with your thoughts and maybe we can help … that’s what we are here for!
Watch the video to hear a couple of ideas from Peter’s daughter, Heather, which include an iPhone application for “breaking the ice” in a conversation and an expansion of Team Alpha and Team TRU’s mosaic project idea to help with a problem that high school graduates are currently facing.

In business, or even in life, we will face many challenges. Over coming them builds character and pushes you to grow. However no one does it alone, we can all use a hand from time to time. Amanda Blyth brought us this idea’s about something that could lend you a hand, literally.
Idea Summary:
A door handle attachement that allows you to easily shut the door!
Idea Description:
When my mom leaves for work in the morning she’s finding it hard to close the door with out slamming it as she’s got her gloves on and of course those who are sleeping in the house while the door gets slammed aren’t too happy!
What needs to be invented for these people as well as for people with arthritis who have trouble grasping the door knob also is some sort of handle that can be attached to the door knob that they can grab and pull that will pull the door closed.
It could be as simply as cutting one of those plastic holders on 6-packs of pop so that it only has two holes and then placing that on the door so that the other loop hangs below the door and can be grabbed onto to assist in shutting the door. The problem with the door knob for those with arthritis is that its hard to grab onto it and pull it with enough force to get the door to close. If they simply had a loop to pull it would be alot easier on their joints!
Very easy, yet very helpful design. Ask my mom and she’ll tell you that it can be very frustrating getting the door closed easily while keep those sleepers happy!

Shorter travel time has always been in our best interest. Humans have continually worked towards traveling a further distance in a shorter time. Along with making faster vehicles we also try to make them safer. We make them safer because sometimes the rules of the road just can’t be followed. Jonathan believes that a driving school with a higher level of education will put safer drivers in our faster vehicles. It’s a great idea, definitely one worth a free Race to a Million t-shirt and an entry into the $10,000 dollar draw!!! Submit your your idea today and you could have a chance to win the $10,000 dollars as well!!!!
Idea Title:
Driver training – Canada’s worst driver style
Idea Summary:
We’ve all seen the courses Canada’s worst drivers get put through to test their learning on the show. Capitalizing on the popularity of the life saving show why not start a driving school that teaches drivers the fundamentals of handling a car, rather than just how to follow the rules of the road.
Idea Description:
Current driving schools do us a service but only teach us so much. Current driving legislation really does little to train individuals how to safely operate their vehicle other than just teaching them to obey the road signs and know which turn lane to use.
This leaves room for a business to lease or purchase a rural plot of land or build onto an old speedway for their life saving driver training courses. This would include courses for hands on driving instruction to teach the fundamentals of driving and physics. Simple but life saving lessons like how to know where your wheels are and look where you want to go.
For new drivers, wouldn’t they feel safer driving knowing they weren’t just a licensed driver but they also had hands on experience avoiding collisions, recovering from skids, etc. New drivers would have the opportunity to gain confidence behind the wheel before hitting the busy roads.
Many mature drivers would also benefit.
Message:
In my opinion when living in a land as large as Canada driving is more of a necessary life skill that should be part of our regular secondary education system. Our current driver training doesn’t do enough to prepare us for the variety of terrain and whether you will encounter across this great country. Lets save some lives and reduce insurance costs with a new level of safe driver training inspired by the ever amusing show, Canada’s worst driver.

Lets talk names, everything has a has one but where it comes from is usually out of your control. Victoria Weller has a plan to change the way that we name streets, and on getting a street named after you! Idea title:
Name Your Street
From:
Victoria Weller from Kamloops BC
Idea summary:
Submit family name to municipality or rural community planner as a new street name.
Idea Description:
Instead of having an arbitrarty name like Ravenwood Court as a new street name in a residential area, why not have the ability to submit a family name for a street name. There would be a cost to submit a name which would be an additional revenue stream for city. First come first serve. City would have authority to approve the name. No stupid ones. So WELLER could be a street.
Message:
To alleviate only names of ‘richer’ persons, every year, a certain amount of names would be selected from those who said they could not afford to pay. Must provide proof of lower income.

Computer systems, gaming system and mobile operating systems have all come a long way in a short period of time. We live in a world where your mobile device can now do most of the essential tasks that your computer can do, and the same goes for our gaming systems. We’ve come from arcade gaming style outside of your household, to motion sensing, voice activating in home gaming consoles. Jonathan Anthony submitted this one as his third submission, growing his hopes to win $10, 000, if you’ve got an idea submit it today and maybe you’ll be the lucky winner of our $10, 000 contest!!!!! Idea Title:
Arcade Reinvention
From:
Jonathan Anthony from Courtenay BC
Idea Summary:
Many of us geeks miss the old arcade both for the social aspect it used to bring to video games and the fun and intrigue of the old classic concept games before video games became as sophisticated as they are today.
Similar to an internet cafe why not start a classic gaming cafe or
kiosk?
Idea Description:
A lot of old games are now public domain or “abandoned ware”. Others could be acquired for commercial use with often very small licensing
fees.
While the Wii has brought back some of that simplistic fun more social feel of old school gaming it’s still a long way from the old arcades. People may argue there’s no point to the arcade any more because people can have access to all these games in the comfort of their home at their highly customized machines. But people still need to get out and do their shopping, and while they do, it’s the perfect time to remind them that once upon a time people used to leave the house to have fun.
There’s no reason an “emulated arcade” can’t be an additional revenue source for a restaurant or a mall food court, a coffee shop, a bowling alley, or any of the other odd places arcade machines would show up in the 80′s.
But in todays modern yet retro arcade a customer can choose which old game system they want to play and pick from hundreds or thousands of titles all available on a single machine. Sega, Nintendo, Atari, Mame/Arcade, etc.
Like an internet cafe you charge for the time on the system and supplement your income with snacks, beverages, and retro gaming merchandise and other electronic toys, mini rc’s, etc.
While rent at mall kiosks may be expensive malls come with their own security and a large public presence to detour vandalism of your retro gaming stations.
Why would people pay to play the same games they could download on their iphone or android or home pc? One possible reason is because you’re offering them a fun way to kill time at the mall or somewhere we’re they’re going to be stuck waiting for their parents or their friends.
Message:
I would look into the licensing a lot more before going into heavy planning on an idea like this. Still I’m surprised it’s something more internet cafe’s don’t already do.

It’s all about convenience, if it makes your busy life easier, then it makes it into your household. Not to say that we are lazy people, it’s just how it is. It has to be quick, painless, easy… convenient. When you’re relaxing outside with a drink in one hand and a smoke in the other, you won’t want to walk over to that ashtray all the way across the patio deck every time you need to ash. So lets make smoking quick, painless, easy… convenient. This idea is the third from Jennifer Kitt, her collection of t-shirts will now be complete. Thank-you Jennifer, good luck on winning the $10, 000!!!!
Idea Title:
Patio Ashtray
From:
Jeniffer Kitt from Salmon Arm
Idea Summary:
We had friends over the other night that smoked, for this reason we always keep an ashtray on hand, the same square ones they have on their patio at their house. I realized that despite the ashtray to put it out in, it was out of the way for them to always be tapping their smoke ash into, and it just ended up on our brand new patio floor. I thought, if only they made an ashtray that was able to fit onto the railing so it wasn’t out of reach.
Idea Description:
A plastic ashtray with grips or clasps on one side so it can sit on the railing (almost like a potter for the railing). It would contain a bowl like middle so a removable ashtray could be easily removed and dumped out, then easily just put back into place.
Message:
I’m not even a smoker and I would buy one of these for my house if they existed! Alot of smokers turn to their patios for a smoke break, and all the ones I have been on have also been distressed from the ashes on their ground. What a great idea to have the ashtray near them, infront of them, and easily accessable.

Headlights are a crucial part of your vehicle, without them night driving can be dangerous. When you are operating a vehicle in unsafe weather conditions your headlights have the potential of being blocked with debris, and unfortunately not every vehicle comes with headlight washers built in. Brian Dunphy wants to take a closer look at how an aftermarket headlight washer may improve your driving safety. Brian thanks a million for this submission, and good luck on winning the BIG $10, 000 CONTEST!!!!
Idea Title:
Headlight Washers
From:
Brian Dunphy from Kamloops BC
Idea Summary:
Roads and highways now have a lot of brown slop on them in the winter. If you follow another vehicle even a short distance, your headlights become nearly useless. To date, I have not been able to find an aftermarket headlight washing system for passenger cars and trucks. There is an aftermarket system available for the large commercial rigs, but not an adaptation for the passenger vehicles.
Idea Description:
The unit would consist of nozzles that could be easily adjusted for differing mounting applications, fluid hoses and fittings, a pump with adequate pressure and volume that would be supplied from the existing windshield washing reservoir or from an additional reservoir that would be fitted into the underhood area.
Message:
There are some factory installed washing systems available, so the
technology is out there.

Great job, good idea, lets see some more!
Idea title:
A different take on air mice
From:
Jonathan Anthony from Courtenay BC
Idea Summary:
It has astounded me that we have had wireless technology for so many years and yet so called “wireless” mice remained firmly pressed against our desks promoting further wrist injuries and carpal tunnel for desk jockeys. Finally there are “air mice” but they’ve yet to come down in price and prove themselves useful. What about a series of hand held wireless controllers offering users their choice of control in a product?
Idea Description:
Wand/Air pointer with buttons either using Wii style motion tracking technology, or PS3 style motion sensing technology, or Xbox Connect style visual motion tracking technology.
Possibilities include a hand held controller with touch pad, or mini joystick/toggle stick (similar to the play station analog stick), or track ball mouse.
This is a time limited idea. People have already adapted their wii-motes as crude mice and no doubt Microsoft is already working on some next generation control systems.

You know that drawer filled with cables and cables and cables and more cables. Yes you know the drawer I’m talking about, every household has one of these drawers. I’m talking about the one you use to store all of the usb, mini usb, micro usb, ethernet, HDMI, firewire, AUX, 3.5 mm, 2.5mm, 1/4 inch, coaxial and RCA cables, the list goes on and on and so does the tangled mess. Amanda Blyth would like to eliminated that tangle, and that mess, by simply taking it out of the equation. Take a look at this idea on going from wired to wireless!! Amanda clearly there is no shirt being sent, however your chances of winning that $10, 000 is looking pretty good keep it up!!!
Idea Title:
Cordless Cords
From:
Amanda Blyth from Kamloops BC
Idea Summary:
Say good bye to that rats nest of electrical cords with cordless
electrical “cords”!
Idea Description:
Someone needs to invent an electircal cord that has both ends but NO CORD! I know it drives everybody crazy having that tangle of cords being your tv or computer. And no one likes having to walk over a cord thats plugged in but crossing a room or hallway. What needs to be done is have some sort of sensor in each end of the plugs thats specific to the plug (so that different plugs don’t get confused) that can reach a certain distance without the connection breaking. It would be even BETTER if the connection could be almost endless so that you could plug something in on one side of the wall and use it in the other but we can work on that after. Obviously some things are going to still need a cord but for your TV and computer (its a start!) it would be very convenient to have the “cord” plugged in and then the other end plugged in to the wall with no mess in the middle!
